Contacts to both German and Icelandic composers made it possible to create a number of pieces for the duo and lead to the idea of an intercultural German-Icelandic project to be performed in both countries.Out of this idea, a concept combining new music from Germany and Iceland has been worked out. In Germany hardly anybody is aware of the fact, that there is a prosperous and interesting new music life on Iceland. This situation is the same concerning Iceland and the general knowledge of contemporary German music there. Due to the long distance, there is not many possibilities for a natural culture exchange. The intention of this project is to connect two very interesting musical environments and give the audience an impression of the latest musical development in both countries. I addition to that, the project is meant to offer young composers the opportunity to get their works performed by young musicians. The pieces are developed in very close cooperation between composers and musicians, as the result of a creative process which gives them the opportunity to get to know each other´s culture and musical background. Artistic interaction on an international level will always provoke new inspiration and ideas. These experiences are reflected in the music performed by the duo. The Slide Show Secret wants to present the many different
sound posibilities of their instruments, which become quite obvious in
the pieces recently written for the duo. The works are relating to different
parts of culture, such as arts, literature, science or tradition. Short
Pieces by John Cage, the Harmonies from Appartmenthouse 1776, were chosen
to frame the programm and draw a connection between traditions and latest
musical developments.
The Slide Show Secret, contemporary music duo, was established in 2004 by German accordionist Eva Zöllner and Icelandic double-bassist Kristján Orri Sigurleifsson and is by now situated in Copenhagen, Denmark. Both musicians have a special interest and experience in contemporary music and are attracted by the many unexplored sound possibilities of this unique combination of instruments. The Slide Show Secret want to enlighten different aspects
of contemporary music, put them in new contexts and draw a connection
between sounds, lights, images and different arts.Their concerts intend
to create a special atmosphere for the audience, make the music of our
time more attractive for a wide range of people and present various stiles
and musical ideas. The ensemble´s cooperation with composers, cultural
institutions, other musicians and artist leads to a creative exchange
of ideas and is inspiration for an artistic work of high quality and intensity.
The Slide Show Secret have been performing in Denmark and Germany, are
planning a tour to Iceland in summer 2005 and to the United States in
Spring 2006. Kristján Orri Sigurleifsson, born in Iceland in 1976, has been living in Denmark since 2001 to study at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. His teacher is Michal Stadnicki, first principal in the National Danish Radio Orchestra. Kristján will graduate from the Academy in 2006. He is member of Ísafold Chamber Orchestra which is a young orchestra in Iceland with a repertoire of 20th-21st century music. The orchestra has received extremely positive reviews and is expected to grow in the future. Kristjáns plans for the upcoming months include solo concerts in Iceland, Germany and Seattle/USA and well as concerts with Eva Zöllner, performing music especially written for the duo. |
